This scholarship is​ designed to reward international fee status applicants who have been offered a place to study with UEA and who can clearly and concisely explain how studying here at UEA will help them to make an outstanding contribution to their chosen field of study as well as the wider UEA community.

The Postgraduate International Excellence Scholarship is an application based award open to those who hold an offer of study at UEA.   Our panel sits on a regular basis with submissions of a high quality being offered £4,000 as a tuition fee discount. Successful applicants will be informed shortly after each panel.

Application Process for International Scholarship for Excellence

These awards are designed to reward applicants who have been offered a place to study with UEA and who can clearly and concisely explain how studying here at UEA will help them to make an outstanding contribution to their chosen field of study.​

Applications to our 2023 International Excellence Scheme are to be submitted via video. We would like you to film your response to the following two questions:

1.  Tell us how the course you have chosen will equip you with the transferable skills required to meet your future career aspirations

2.  Consider the different social and extra-curricular opportunities available to you at UEA, and outline how you may engage with these in order to enhance your experience, and those of your fellow students.

3. Submissions should be .mp4 format, filmed in standard definition (not HD or UHD) and no longer than 2 minutes in length.

4. This is an opportunity to go beyond your personal statement, mention UEA specifically and tell us why UEA is the right university for you.

5. We are looking for original, engaging responses that show what you will bring to the UEA community during your studies and beyond.  You should be able to prove a track record of community contribution through volunteering or extra-curricular activity and research the opportunities that UEA can offer.

6. We would encourage you to submit your scholarship application as soon as you feel it is ready. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, meaning that the sooner you apply, the sooner you will find out whether you have been successful.

7. When applying for this scholarship, you must already be in possession of a conditional or unconditional offer for a postgraduate taught degree course starting at UEA in September 2023. Your offer should state that you are an international fee-paying student.

8. Applicants in receipt of another UEA scholarship or award should note that scholarships are exclusive.  In a situation where a candidate is offered multiple awards the greater amount will be offered.

Undergraduate key terms and conditions

Only one academic or Donor Funded UEA Scholarship will be awarded to eligible students. If you have been offered more than one academic or Donor-Funded Scholarship you will be able to request which one you would prefer to receive. It is possible to receive a Donor-Funded Year Abroad Scholarship in addition to a regular Donor Funded scholarship provided the two scholarships do not provide funding for the same academic year.

Postgraduate key terms and conditions

Only one academic or Donor Funded UEA Scholarship will be awarded to eligible students. If you have been offered more than one academic or Donor-Funded Scholarship you will be able to request which one you would prefer to receive.

Eligibility Criteria for International Scholarship for Excellence

The eligibility criteria for each of the scholarships is set out in the appendices in this document.

If we are of the reasonable view that you do not meet our Eligibility Criteria and you wish to appeal, we will ask you to provide us with such proof as we deem necessary to make a new assessment. You must supply us with the requested evidence as soon as reasonably possible.

Removal of a Scholarship

Your Scholarship may be removed immediately in the event that:   – You withdraw from your programme of study; or

  • You are expelled, suspended or excluded from the whole or part of the University or your programme of study for academic failure; or
  • We are of the reasonable opinion that you have made any misrepresentation (whether negligently or intentionally) to us either in respect of applying for the Scholarship or during the course of and in connection with your studies at the University; or
  • We are of the reasonable opinion that you have acted fraudulently or dishonestly in connection with securing your Scholarship or place at the University.

In the event of a period of interruption to your studies, including maternity or paternity leave, any payments will be suspended until you return and progress to the next stage of your course. However, for students receiving a donor-funded scholarship it may not be possible for you to retain your scholarship if there is a period of interruption to your studies, and requests will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

The scholarship is offered for a specified course and will not be transferred to an alternative course should you later submit a transfer request.

If at any stage you decide to defer entry onto the course until the following year, then you will no longer be eligible for a Scholarship. You may apply again the following year, but an award cannot be guaranteed and you will be subject to the eligibility of whatever scheme operates in that year of entry.

Repayment of the Scholarship  

In the event that your Scholarship is removed, you will be liable to pay the monetary amount equating to your Scholarship, immediately on demand.

If we have made an error in calculating your Scholarship and as a result you have received any funds to which you were not entitled, we may request that you repay us the amount overpaid and you will be liable to repay it to us within 30 days of our demand.

Marketing and Promotion   

You may be required to make yourself available at reasonable notice for any publicity and marketing campaigns which we may want to run in connection with the scholarship schemes, which may include but not be limited to public appearances, speeches, photographs, blogging and/tweeting or interviews.
